SAT Time Management and Anxiety?
Does anyone have great tips for time management on the SAT? I've been studying for so long and yet my speed within a limited time frame is so weak that I actually start to hypervenalate (sp?) when I feel that I've wasted so much time on only a few questions - and (as we all know) more blanks can cost you more points.

Please help! I'd appreciate the advice; I have only 44 days left until the test and I'm getting so paranoid.

It sounds like you are doing the right things, like practicing with the time limit. Here are some basic tips.

On the reading section, glance at the questions before you start reading the section. That way you will know what things you are looking for.

On the math sections, look at all of the questions before you start. Pick the easiest ones first, then work your up to the harder ones

Remember, all the questions count equally, so make sure you answer the easy ones first. Don't be afraid to leave some blank if you don't know the answer. You won't lose points for skipped questions, but you will if you guess wrong.

You might think about taking the ACT instead of the SAT if the college you want to go to will accept it. On the ACT, you only have the four main sections, and you have a longer block of time for each section. It breaks down to about the same amount of time per question, but you don't feel quite as rushed.

If you start to feel panicked, stop what you are doing, close your eyes, take a few slow, deep breaths, and tell yourself that this is just a test, it's not the end of the world if you don't get every question right. Remember you can retake the test if you don't like your score. What I did was plan on taking the test at least twice, so the first time I took it, I told myself this was just for practice, it didn't count for anything. I did pretty well on the first time, so when I took it again, I told myself that if I did worse, it didn't matter, since the college would take the higher score. If you can convince yourself that the test is not the most important thing in the world, you can relax more.

Good luck!
