Can having febrile seizures cause panic attacks or anxiety later in life?

Posted by admin on September 24th, 2008 and filed under panic attacks cause | 4 Comments »

I had them until 4 yrs. of age. My mom said I have had fevers that reached 108 before. I now have panic attacks and anxiety and am curious if there is a correlation. Everything I've read just says they don't cause brain damage and the patient normally doesn't suffer any harmful effects.

Bless your heart! This is a serious question that would be best addressed by your doctor and not this forum. (You don't need any wrong advice or misleading ideas) Go to your doctor and discuss this with him. If he thinks you need to see a specialist (like a neurologist or whomever he believes would be the best at diagnosing your issues) then follow up on it. Don't try to figure out the problem by "googling" it. Hugs to you!!!

What is the best medication used to effectively treat these anxiety/panic symptoms?

Posted by admin on September 24th, 2008 and filed under anxiety panic attacks symptoms | 3 Comments »

I have been on lexapro 20 mg for almost 2 years because of depression, but recently I have been feeling like maybe its not working??? i am wondering what actions to take to get on a good reliable medication that will treat these symptoms:constant tension, worry, (i also have been diagnosed with adult add)-the lack of concentration and drive to do daily activities, low energy, some days i will only get 2 hours of sleep while others I could sleep all day and still wake up tired as hell. I am always tired, and lately i think i have been having panic attacks…in a stressful situation-mostly when i interact with other people. I get this like paranoid feeling that I doing something stupid (maybe i am who knows, i sometimes care…sometimes i don't) or that other people are thinking that I am crazy by the way they look at me or talk to me. i know its wierd. But the anxiety is really start to eat away at me here lately. I don't understand why this happens, i used to be the cont'd…….
I used to be such a sociable interactive person…but the medication just is not working. I have heard of some medications to take this edge off (or chemically balance?) me, but what are some to recommend to talk to my doctor about?

Is a psychiatrist specialized in these disorders supervising your meds or just your GP? If you aren't seeing a psychiatrist I'd advice consulting one It's always best to get treatment from people with the most direct experience with what you are dealing with.

They could put you on Xanax for anxiety, it is a benzodiazapine. Benzos are really effective but the problem with them is that they can have a zombifying effect, "numbing people out" to where their personality is affected. Still they are still sometimes used for severe anxiety.

Are you on stimulant meds for ADD, I use a combination of concerta for ADHD and lexapro for anxiety.

Have you received therapy for the anxiety attacks? Behavioral and cognitive therapy is normally very affective in treating anxiety problems. Here is a URL that can help you find a behavioral/cognitive therapist:

One last thought, I hope you don't smoke marijuana, I was a daily pot-user for 5 years until I figured out that the natural amotivated nature of ADD is SEVERELY exacerbated by the additional amotivational affects from the cannabis.

Good luck.

Does anyone know of any tricks that could stop panic attacks?

Posted by admin on September 24th, 2008 and filed under stop panic attacks | 10 Comments »

I have been having really bad panic attacks lately and they seem to happen a lot when I am at work. I just wanted some advice on how to stop panic attacks immediately without any medication. I would appreciate any of your advice because these panic attacks have been taking a toll on me and they are awful. I have prayed a lot since they started and I just want things to be better.

I have been having panic attacks for 20 years and you are on the right track by praying. I found comfort talking to my pastor who had also suffered with panic attacks at one point in his life. This seemed to really help to know I wasn’t alone. He also helped me to learn comforting scriptures. Panic attacks are very hard to deal with and anyone that tells you to try breathing excursuses to fix them hasn’t really ever had a full blown terrifying panic attack. I am going to be honest that I haven’t really found something that eliminates the attacks. I suggest staying away from medications. I tried Paxil and it was worse than the panic attacks. When I having a panic attack I call my pastor and he prays with me and it really helps, so put your faith in God. What will happen to your praying habits once the attacks are gone? You say you started praying more when they started… Keep in mind that prayers are answered when you meet God half way. Feel free to email me sometime.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid (John 14:27)

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

He (God) comforts us whenever we suffer. That is why whenever other people suffer, we are able to comfort them by using the same comfort we have received from God. (2 Corinthians 1:24)

For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
Isaiah 41:13

How Do I Help My Best Friend With Panic Attacks?

Posted by admin on September 24th, 2008 and filed under panic attacks help | 5 Comments »

My Best Friend suffers from panic attacks and always asks for me when she falls in to one. I think she does because i can deal with epilepsy sufferers but i dont know what else to help with other than sit with her and watch her breath into a bag and talk to her. Shes on medication but that only makes her sleep then wake up in absolute fear. What else can i do?

Develop some little ritual with her that you use whenever the has an attack–it could be a poem she likes, a song that has meaning, just describing the surroundings, anything that seems to comfort her. Just having someone there who understands what is happening & isn't overwhelmed by it is worth a whole lot!!She's lucky to have a good friend like you..

Panic attacks - treatment without medication?

Posted by admin on September 24th, 2008 and filed under panic attacks treatment | 5 Comments »

I have had panic attacks for 14 years - always at work. I have never taken medication for them and have not told my Dr. about them. Sometimes I have one after another for an hour or more, then they subside and begin again. I try to talk myself down but I am soooo tired of them. I do yoga and meditation after work but my work days are filled with the attacks.

Telling myself that it will be OK, I'm alright, etc. does not help. I am not trusting of the Life process. Anyone have things they say to themselves or do you get up from your desk for a breather? Somtimes that helps, but he moment I am back at my desk they begin again.

You do not need to suffer. I suffered for years since my anxiety/panic was not diagnosed or discovered. My life is so different now……I take Lexapro……..and it has evened out my life tremendously. If things get too rough, I add a tiny bit of Klonipin. I am so grateful for these meds. As I said, you do NOT need to suffer.

Is there any alternative treatment for anxiety and panic attacks?

Posted by admin on September 24th, 2008 and filed under panic attacks treatment | 7 Comments »

I suffer in certain situations with anxiety which can sometimes turn into a panic attack. I have come of my antidepressent and wanted to try some alternative therapy rather than going back on them. Anyone have any ideas?

Foods rich in magnesium will soothe your frazzled nervous system…. magnesium is known as the antistress mineral and will increase the production of hydrochloric acid in your tummy, thus aiding in digestion and helping to resolve any issues with constipation you may have …. magnesium is needed in our bodies for healthy nerve and muscle functioning and of course for heart health…… magnesium chloride is not the easiest to digest ……… magnesium chelate is♥

foods rich in magnesium are ~ leafy and green vegies, ground up nuts and seeds (ground up for easier digestion), cold water fishes such as tuna, salmon, sardines and whiting and wholegrain cereals and breads.

The leaves from the plant that produces passionfruit, passionflower herb, when made into a tea are exceptionally useful as an antidepressant and is also used to treat nervousness and anxiety, insomnia and nightmares, to alleviate mood swings and as a gentle sedative and relaxant.

The passionflower organic loose leaf variety of the herb encourages the uptake of tryptophan, which is an amino acid that assists deep sleep, as well as maintaining levels of serotonin, which is a hormone that is crucial in regulating mood swings and depression.

Check out this link for a complete list of herbs and their cautions ~ with passionflower it is wise to consult a nutritionally oriented physician or naturopath or herbalist if you are pregnant or breast feeding and not to use on infants or young children.

Any good health food store should be able to supply you with the organic variety of this herb……. only organic will suffice as the commercial and tea bag varieties have had so much of the goodness pulverised from they could never possibly be of any therapeutic use. Also, the spent leaves can generally be reused once more as the essential oils are still so potent in them, so you really do get your money's worth ♥

Foods rich in Tryptophan do a brilliant of conquering the blues and stress and anxiety also i reckon.

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that's used by the brain - along with B6, B3, and magesium (known as the antistress mineral) - to produce serotonin (the natural feel good drug), a neurotransmitter that carries messages between the brain and one of the body's biochemical mechanisms of sleep.

The EFA's in foods rich in omega 3's such as cold water fishes like tuna, salmon, sardines and whiting are also essential in this process to nourish the neurons that are receiving the messages from the neurotransmitters. Cold water fishes such as salmon are particularly rich in the EFA's and will do a brilliant job of levelling out your stress, anxiety and depression levels and smoothing any mood swings you may have.

Eat more foods rich in all these things ♥

The Doctor doesn't tell you that when you go complaining of depression and stress now does he ………….. he surely should though.

Tryptophan will help induce natural sleep; reduce pain sensitivity; act as a nondrug antidepressant; alleviate migraines; aid in reducing anxiety and tension and help relieve some symptoms of alcohol-related body-chemistry disorders and aid in control of alcoholism.

Best natural food sources of Tryptophan are; cottage cheese, milk, meat, fish, turkey, bananas, dried dates, peanuts and all protein rich foods.

Best natural food sources for magnesium are: leafy and green vegies, nuts and seeds, cold water fishes such as tuna, sardines, whiting and salmon.

Best natural food sources for niacin are: the white meat of chicken, whole wheat products, roasted peanuts, fish, eggs, avoacadoes, dates, figs and prunes.

Best natural food sources for vitamin B6 are: wheat germ, fish, soybeans, brewer's yeast, cantaloupe, cabbage, blackstgrap molasses, unmilled rice, eggs, oats, peanuts and walnuts.

By taking a good quality multi B complex supplement including all the B's ie: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12 you will support your body in dealing with the everyday stresses life throws at us. ie: new job, new home, school studies …… the B complex of vitamins is essential for healthy digestive, neural and immune systsem functioning.Don't, however, buy any of the B complex of vitamins individually, but rather as a whole complex, unless under instructions from a nutritionally oriented physician or naturopath.

Bear in mind also that calcium and vitamin D and vitamin B6 are needed to effectively absorb vitamin B12, part of the B complex of vitamins, so eat more foods rich in calcium and try to get at least 10 - 15 minutes of safe sun exposure on a daily basis…… cold water fishes such as salmon and tuna are rich in both calcium and vitamin D….. vitamin B6 will be included as part of a Bcomplex of vitamins supplement or simply eat more foods rich in B6 ~ wheat germ, brewers yeast, liver, fish, cantaloupe, unmilled rice, eggs & oats♥

The whole food source of tryptophan and all other vitamins, minerals amino acids etc…. will always be the most nutritious and easily assimilable form.

Hope this information helps you a bit.

Take care of you♥
